  3. THANKS for choosing Novaterm!  Whether
  4. you're a new user or you're updating
  5. from an older version, I hope Novaterm
  6. 9.5 fulfills all of your wildest
  7. telecommunication dreams!
  8.  
  9. Okay, okay, I admit, this little letter
  10. is to encourage you to register your
  11. copy of Novaterm.  But before the
  12. pitch, let me mention what's planned
  13. for Novaterm in the near future.  Your
  14. registration will help these planned
  15. features become a reality.
  16.  
  17. There are many new and enhanced
  18. features planned for future versions of
  19. Novaterm.  Among those on the drawing
  20. board are:
  21.  
  22. * Direct DMA access to RAM expansion
  23.   units for a large buffer area.
  24.   Novaterm needs to use the RAM
  25.   expansion unit as a large buffer
  26.   area, rather than as just another
  27.   disk drive.
  28. * FAX document module, for use with FAX
  29.   modems.  You ought to be able to send
  30.   a FAX from your Commodore 64!
  31. * Zmodem upload.  The other half of
  32.   Zmodem will be a great convenience.
  33. * Enhanced 40/80 column text editor.
  34.   The text editor needs an 80 column
  35.   mode, and it needs more features,
  36.   such as a block copy/move/delete
  37.   function.  The editor also needs to
  38.   be able to access Novaterm's buffer
  39.   directory.
  40. * The ANSI editor needs some repair and
  41.   some new features.
  42. * Fast 1541 read/write routines.
  43.   Novaterm sorely needs fast disk
  44.   routines to speed up file transfers
  45.   and other critical disk operations.
  46. * Extended script file commands and
  47.   structures.  The script language
  48.   needs some true programming commands,
  49.   like FOR and WHILE loops,
  50.   subroutines, and user-defined
  51.   variables.
  52. * A block size count during file
  53.   transfers (determined by dividing the
  54.   byte count by 254).
  55.  
  56. Accomplishing some of these features
  57. will require rewriting the main portion
  58. of the program in assembly language (or
  59. in C compiled down to assembly, if that
  60. option becomes available to me).  This
  61. task will be made much easier by a new
  62. Commodore 64 emulator for IBM PCs,
  63. allowing me to continue development on
  64. a much faster computer.
  65.  
  66. As you can see, there are still many
  67. useful features planned for Novaterm.
  68. But in order to accomplish them, I need
  69. your support.  Shareware registrations
  70. are what keep this software going.  If
  71. you use Novaterm and would like to see
  72. it continue to grow and offer more
  73. features, I urge you to register.  Even
  74. if you've been using Novaterm for a
  75. long time and are just now thinking
  76. about registering, don't worry about it
  77. - nobody's going to come after you!
  78. Just know that your one-time regis-
  79. tration makes it possible to continue
  80. developing the software.

  82. As a registered user, you are
  83. immediately sent a disk with the most
  84. recent version and the most recent
  85. module updates (with the shareware
  86. title screen replaced by your name, of
  87. course).  When a brand-new version of
  88. Novaterm is released, you'll be
  89. notified immediately by mail, and you
  90. can upgrade simply by sending in a
  91. blank disk.  (And don't worry, your
  92. name will not appear on a junk mailing
  93. list somewhere.  Registration
  94. information is held in strict
  95. confidence.)

  97. Again, if you enjoy using Novaterm, I
  98. urge you to register and support
  99. software for your Commodore 64.
